A little about me

I'm Sha-En.

The Real Way is a philosophy for living in a way that feels true to who you are.

It has grown out of my own journey, the science I've studied, and more than 15 years of working with people around wellbeing and human flourishing.

Over the years, I've come to understand that living well isn't about having everything figured out, or becoming a better version of yourself.

It's about learning to know yourself, listen to yourself, and make choices that allow you to live as truthfully and fully as you can.

My story

I didn't start out wanting to become a
Happiness Scientist®.

I started my career as a teacher. From the outside, I was doing what I was supposed to be doing. But inside, I had begun to feel disconnected from myself and from the life I was living.

I didn't have the language for it then.

I just knew something didn't feel right.

So I read, and researched. I became fascinated by questions about happiness, meaning and what makes a life feel genuinely worth living.

That's how I discovered Positive Psychology, the scientific study of well-being.

For the first time, I found a field that was asking many of the questions I had been asking myself:

What helps people flourish?

What makes life meaningful?

What allows us not simply to function, but to feel truly alive?

That curiosity eventually took me to the University of Pennsylvania in the US to pursue a Master's in Applied Positive Psychology, and changed the direction of my work.

Over the years, I went from teaching in schools and working as a Guidance Officer with Singapore's Ministry of Education, to speaking, training, coaching and working with people and organisations around wellbeing and human flourishing.

The question that started it all remains firmly in my mind.

"What helps us build a life that doesn't just look good from the outside, but actually feels like ours?"

Over time, my understanding of that question deepened.

Happiness wasn't just about feeling positive.

I became increasingly interested in our emotions, nervous system, identity, relationships, values, the expectations we carry, and all the ways we can slowly lose touch with ourselves.

And in many ways, I realised I was still following the thread I'd begun all those years ago.

The Real Way grew from that journey.

It brings together what I've learned through science, through years of working with people, and through finding my own way back to myself.

The thread through my work

For years, I've been asking the same question in different ways.

What helps a person feel well, not just look well?

What helps us navigate difficulty without losing ourselves in it?

What allows us to hear our own voice beneath all the expectations, roles and noise?

What helps us build lives that actually feel like ours?

Positive psychology gave me one part of the answer.

My work with people gave me another.

My own life taught me another.

The Real Way brings those pieces together.
